Father Dave's Partner's Ezine

Partners in the Good Fight

When one man dreams, it is just a dream, but when we all dream together, it is the beginning of a new reality.

Dom Helder Camara

Welcome Fighter!

I'm afraid the ezine is a day or two late this week, but I made an executive decision early in the week to devote most of my spare hours to writing this article on anti-Semitism

It wasn't an easy decision to make actually, as it involved me in criticising Aussie Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd (who is a man I deeply admire) for his attack on Iranian President, Mahmoud Admadinejad - a man I seriously dislike.

You'll remember that only a few weeks ago I interviewed Mr Khatami - the former President of Iran and Admadinejad's sworn enemy - and I really wasn't looking for opportunities to support the current regime. Even so, Mr Rudd's statement that Admadinejad's government was 'anti-Semitic' really bothered me, and in the end I had to write something.

Anyway, the article on anti-Semitism has been published and I'd be grateful for your comments, and even more grateful if you don't label me as anti-Semitic on the basis of the article.

Apart from spending an inordinate amount of time this week writing (articles and sermons) I had a wedding, a baptism and a funeral, and did numerous rounds in the ring.

Father Dave

This Month's Freebie
(watch this space)

OK. It's not quite ready yet but look out for next week's ezine as we'll have the first of a series of high-value software give-aways for members. Full members will get the software entirely free of charge.  Free members will have the opportunity to pick it up at half price or less.

Next week's freebie will be an excellent set of videos on Twitter - how it works, how to set up and account, and how to make the most of it.  I'm a bit Twitter-mad  at the moment, so I'm keen to get these  into your hands.  Watch this space!

What's news on ?

Lots of things to share with you this week, especially for those living in Sydney:
  • 9am, Sunday May 17, Cairon O'Reilly will be our guest preacher at our Sunday Morning Eucharist. O'Reilly is a guy who has been arrested in more countries than I've had hot dinners in and has done time in prisons around the world too - all for his anti-war protests.

Of course, O'Reilly has done more than the odd silent vigil. He has disabled Navy planes, hammered the heads of cruise missiles, poured blood over military tarmacs, and engaged in a variety of activities that directly hampered the military action against Iraq.

In truth, I have never met this guy and I don't know exactly what to expect of him, but I think it's going to be fun.  Download this A5 flyer for more details..

  • 7pm, Sunday May 17,  at the same venue (Holy Trinity) Dulwich Hill's own Jubilate Choir will be presenting a choral celebration, featuring Bach's church cantatas. In truth, I know even less about cantatas than I do about O'Reilly's history of activism.  I do know though that it will be fantastic!

  • For those who appreciate my article on anti-Semitism, I thought I'd also offer you this compendium of recent speeches made by prominent Jewish academics who are critical of the Israeli government in its treatment of the Palestinian people.  This is a resource well-worth sharing.

  • On a similar subject, I must recommend Caryl Churchill's play, "Seven Jewish Children".  Churchill wrote the play as a response to the Gaza assault in January of this year. Some have also labeled the play as being anti-Semitic. You can decide for yourself.

  • On a totally different note, we've had more passionate forum discussion this week over the merits of colonoscopies. Consensus seems to be that they're worth doing, even if they are a pain in the butt!

  • More interesting forum discussion too on Scientists who believe in God.

  • I re-published a media article this week, featuring an interview I did after being given the local Citizen of the Year Award again (of which I am very proud).

  • And in case you missed it, I created a video-postcard for you (featuring a cameo appearance from baby Francesca) outlining changes that have been made to our Fighting Fathers member site.  If you have trouble viewing the video, it's probably because your membership has expired.  If you can't afford to renew it as a paying member, just email me and I will rectify the situation.

  • Finally, just for fun, I've got to pass on to you this video-hit, which captures the true soul of the Australian teenager better than anything I have seen to date. Enjoy!
So please put this month's special events in your diary, especially if you are going to be in or near Sydney, and if you have to travel all the way from Montana to join us, keep in mind that you can at least make a day of it by joining us for Fight training in the afternoon (4.30pm) which will complete the experience.

Virtual Pulpit: The Lord is my Shepherd

"I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep." (John 10:14-15)

I think I got a bit lost with this sermon, dare I say like a stray sheep that strayed from the plot.  Even so, as in the Psalm, I eventually found my way back home.

There's no written version of the sermon published this week, but you can hear it in full by clicking the play button below.

Father Dave members can download the MP3 version of this one from the 'Members Benefits' area or by right-clicking here and choosing 'save target as' (you'll need your member name and password).

Video of the Week: Father Dave on 'Wonder World'

When we first opened the Youth Centre in Dulwich Hill in 1994, Father Dave issued a public challenge to any and ever tough-guys in his community:  'Do five rounds with me in the ring.  If you win, I'll buy you dinner. If you lose, you join me in church the following Sunday!'

Even though not many came forward to take up the challenge, plenty of media people got involved - the most exciting of which was the team from popular kid's TV show, 'Wonder World'.  The day after this episode screen, Holy Trinity Youth Centre was packed to the rafters, and we've been growing ever since!

Recommended Webmaster Resource: Traffic Python (click on Fighting Father Todd to get the full story)

Traffic Python is a new ad-exchange system that claims it guarantees more web visitors and online advertising with little effort or cost.

You can sign up for free, and while there are two upgrade options on offer, neither are required in order to get the system working..

Once you've signed up, you get access to the member site, where you create your links and ads.

For the links, you simply feed any URL's you want to promote into the generator and it transforms them into 'Python links'

After you've created at least one link and one ad you just promote the new Python link instead of the original link you had.  Every time the Python link is clicked, the page loads with a hover ad window at the bottom, and every time that ad links gets clicked, you earn credits that gets your ad displayed in the ad windows of other members' sites.  The more times you promote your links, the more clicks you get, and the more times your ads get displayed. Simple.

A clever idea and a free source of traffic. Sign up for Traffic Python here..

OK, my friend. That's plenty for today.

Before I let you go though, let me say again that if you are going to be in the vicinity of Sydney on May 17 do join us for the visit of Cairon O'Reilly and for the concert.  It should be a fantastic day.  And if you can't get there, join us online afterwards for the video web-chat.  It's a simple procedure:
  1. Login at (yes, you need to be a member)
  2. From the sidebar on the left, click the link that says 'Web Video Chat'
  3. Click 'Launch Web Video Chat' and ... if there's no one there, you need to check the  times.
And remember please that we have had some people have their free memberships expire lately. If that's you and you're still not in a position to afford a paid membership, that's OK. Just email me and tell me to renew your free membership.  I'll take care of it.

I'll look forward to seeing you on Sunday if not before.

Yours in the Good Fight,
