When one man dreams, it is just a dream, but when we all dream together, it is the beginning of a new reality.
Dom Helder Camara
I don't know how things are in your part of the world, but it's getting cold and miserable here in Dulwich Hill, and I wish I was only talking about the weather!
In case you didn't know, our little suburb already has dubious privilege of being the most expensive place in the country to insure your car, due to the rate of car theft in this area, This week we added to our woes by hosting some rather grizzly assaults and a murder.
It is no small consolation to me that none of our young people seem to have been involved. Even so, it appears that the violence on our streets is increasing again, which makes our work at the Youth Centre and the Fight Club all the more important.
So much of the violence amongst young people tends to be drug-related, I find, which will help make sense of why I'm going to be posting a series of articles over the next few weeks to help all our members have a better understanding of the drug scene.
This week's article is on metamphetamines, commonly referred to as 'ICE'. This drug seems to be a far bigger problem in this area now than heroin is, and it has a horrible effect on users that most of the other drugs don't have. Whereas heroin users normally go 'on the nods' after they have used (ie. get spaced out and lie around harmlessly) ICE users often get into a manic rage and become uncontrollable and violent. It really is a horrible substance.
At any rate, my goal is not to upset but to inform. If we are going to win this fight though, we need to know the enemy. Click here if you haven't read the article yet, and be prepared for similar articles over the next few weeks. You'll notice too at the base of this article that I'm linking to a book on drugs that I'll be making available in the next week or two. You can be assured too that I'll be making this book available at a price that everybody can afford.
And while you're in the article section, you might want to check out Uri Avnery's article on Obama's tragic performance at AIPAC. It won't cheer you up any, but again, if we are going to win this battle, we need to know what we are up against!
How to make $1,000,000 per month on Fighting-Fathers.com!

On a much lighter note, let me say that it is my hope that www.fighting-fathers.com will develop, not only as a great meeting place for spiritual warriors, but also that through our site members might be able to significantly supplement their incomes!
Is it really possible to make one million dollars per month through the program? Absolutely, assuming that you've got at least 200,000 friends that you could convince to take out paid monthly memberships of the site.
That's probably more than most of us are going to be able to manage, but there's really no reason why anyone shouldn't be able to add an extra couple of hundred per month with a little effort.
What am I talking about? The Fighting-Fathers.com affiliate program of course, where you get 50% of the subscription fee from everybody that you recommend to the site. And I've created a simple little 'how to' video that shows you how to use the system. Click here or the pic to see it.
Father Elias on Perfectionism
This week Elias did his best to preach on all 3 of the lectionary texts:
Genesis 18:1-15 (Abram and Sarai are promised a child)
Romans 5:1-8 (St Paul talking about justification by faith)
Matthew 9:35 - 10:23 (Jesus sends his disciples on a mission)
With Elias' penchant for preaching without notes, you might get the impression that he's sailing about the texts like a boat without an anchor. Even so, everywhere he drifts he comes up with insights.
Personally, my favourite insights in this sermon are in Elias' discussion on the temptation of 'perfectionism' - a favourite topic of his. Elias is of the opinion that the real division in the church is not between Protestant and Catholic or Liberal and Conservative, etc., but between those who aim at perfection and those who aim at love. See if you agree!
note: in case you're wondering what the cheering is about at the opening of this sermon, it is for one of the Siera Leoneon members of our community who it appears is finally going to be reunited with her husband and granted citizenship.
OK. That will do for today, my friend.
Remember that if you want to discuss Elias' sermon or anything else for that matter, the Fighting Fathers Forum is open to all members and we'd love to hear from you. If you haven't registered at the forum yet, you'll need to input '1861' as your VIP code before you can post. While it's painful having to ask people to sign up again and to input special codes, I'm afraid it's the only way to keep our forum free from pornographic graffiti.
And do please consider sharing your thoughts, and (while you're at it) your pics, your videos, and your story. Battling for the Kingdom of God is hard work, but it becomes a lot easier when we fight alongside each other. As Dom Helder used to say, "when one man dreams, it's just a dream. But when we all dream together, it's the beginning of a new reality!"
May the Lord bless and strengthen you for the work to which you have been called.
