 The View from my Corner

G'day again to you, my friend.

I trust that your life has been full and fulfilling over the last month. Many great things have happened for us here, but I must admit that these joys have been overshadowed for me by the 40th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

I appreciated that some people think it's a bit strange that I get so worked up about this. Some even ask me why, as a Christian, I am so interested in politics? In truth, I have never been interested in politics as such. I know that some people are fascinated by the whole practice of politics and look forward to elections as they do to football finals. Personally, I've never found political processes to be remotely interesting.

But human beings interest me greatly. And human suffering hurts me greatly, and as Christian people, human tragedies on the scale of Gaza or Dafur are not things we can overlook.

"If anyone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen." (1John 4:20)

We have seen the suffering of the people of Gaza. We know that, apart from the more obvious injuries and deaths by violence that plague the cities of Gaza and the West bank, these people suffer from chronic problems of unemployment, malnutrition, and an unparalleled level of psychological stress, felt most especially by the children.

Recent studies have suggested that up to 98% of children living in Gaza and the West Bank are suffering from chronic stress that is destroying their ability to live meaningful lives from the inside out.

We who call ourselves Christians have no excuse for not reaching out in love and doing what we can to help these people, and if the only way to do that effectively requires us to get involved in the political process, then so be it.

If politics is not your game either, let me nonetheless urge you this month to at least take a look at this video that takes a look at the pain of children living in Palestinian refugee camps, and interviews one beautifully articulate young girl in particular, who gives us a gut-wrenching glimpse of what growing up in this part of our world must be like.

Watch and pray, and see if the Lord doesn't open doors for you to reach out in love to these people.

Your brother in the Good Fight,

P.S. I've relegated all my good news for this last month over into the pics that are thumbnailed above. Click for the full-size version.

P.P.S. If you happen to be free on Sunday June 17th, and in the area, we're having a Baptism-BBQ-Bonanza here at Holy Trinity. The fun begins at 9am!

Q: Why did the Palestinian cross the road?

A: We don't know either, but we have him in custody and we'll detain him until we find out what he was doing there without a permit!

His name is Tushar Sheath (yes, he's from India) and his passion is 'Paid-to-Read' (PTR) emails.

If you've done my 'Marketing with Integrity' course, you know that I wrote off PTR emails a long way back as a waste of time, but Tushar has changed my mind.

Teasers system involves joining multiple PTR programs and building downlines through an integration interface that he supplies.

In short, this guy has taken PTR programs to a whole new level, and I'm impressed.

Mind you, there are no guarantees that you will make huge amounts of money using this system. In fact, Tushar more or less guarantees that you won't make huge amounts of money - between $200 and $2000 per month maximum.

In truth, that's one of the things I like most about Tushar's program. There are no outrageous claims - just a solid system that pays a reasonable dividend if you put time into it. For those who are struggling though, this may be just what you need.

Anyway, Tushar has created a video that demonstrates how his system works, and it will cost you nothing to take a look at it.

 For Your Prayers

Are Christians and Jews Infidels?

This month we're releasing the third in my series of four interviews with Sheikh Mansour Leghaei of the Iman Hussein Islamic Centre, and my question for the Sheikh this month is "Do you think it is appropriate for Islamic people to refer to Christians and Jews as 'infidels?"

Once again I found the Sheikh's response both surprising and encouraging. and it certainly gave me a better understanding of the forces that are shaping the global conflict between East and West.

If we are going to help solve this problem, we have to understand it first. And if we are going to show love to the Islamic minority within our own Western communities, we need to have a sense of what they are struggling with.

 Sermon of the Month

No Yachting in Heaven!

You may have heard that there's no marriage in Heaven. Some say this means there's no sex! One thing we can say for sure though is that, according to the book of Revelation, there's no yachting in Heaven, or snorkelling, surfing or spear fishing for that matter.

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more." (Revelation 21:1)

Why did our forefathers and foremothers in the faith envisage the world to come as being a place without a sea? Did they know more about global warming than we do or is the imagery purely symbolic (and if so, of what)?

 Sites of the Month

Six of the best sites, videos and articles that I've come across this month.
Keep sending me the links to your personal sites so that I can mention them.

Find Madeleine

Madeleine McCann is missing. She disappeared from the Ocean Club Resort in Praia da Luz in Portugal on May 3rd.

A well-meaning subscriber informed me about this through a chain letter which included a photo, and encouraged me to forward it on to everyone I knew.

This is NOT the best way to make people aware of such emergencies, as chain letters like this tend to circulate for years after the missing child is found, and police end up wasting enormous amounts of time dealing with erroneous enquiries from concerned and well-meaning people.

Here's a better way - forward your friends the link to Madeleine's father's blog. That way, if she's found, everyone will know and the chain letter will stop. Click here and forward the link to anyone you think might be able to help.

Actually, it's really 'Fighting Father Ronan' who gets the credit here.

Ronan McCloskey is a mate (and subscriber) who filmed this insert about Irish kickboxing champion, Billy Murray for BBC TV.

Billy Murray is one tough bastard, but he's a lot more than just another thug. He's a man who has used his pugilistic skills to bring together people from different communities across Belfast. Click here for an entertaining and inspiring introduction to our latest honorary member of the Order.

Video - The Easiest Targets

Here's another excellent video documentary that gives us a window on the occupation, produced by 'If Americans Knew'.

Five women - one Palestinian, one American, one Muslim, one Christian, and one Jewish - share their stories of humiliation and harassment by Israeli border guards and airport security officials.

Click here and then choose the video format and resolution that you prefer.

Free Software - Agloco

Here's a rather brilliant concept for users to take back control of the NET.

Agloco seems to be set up as a not-for-profit venture that will pay each of us who browse the NET for at least five hours per month, so long as we keep the Agloco advertising bar open for those five hours.

It sounds too good to be true, and maybe it is, but it is completely free, so will cost you nothing to find out. Click here.

Coalition for Justice and Peace in Palestine

It seems appropriate to feature one more Palestinian human rights group, so why not highlight Sydney's Coalition of supporters.

Established last year, CJPP is an independent organisation, run by vol-unteers, and committed to a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East.

Click here to visit the site and see some pics of our recent June 9 protest rally.

Subscriber site: the other Dave's MySpace Page

As ever, I'm committed to highlighting the sites of our subscribers, and it's my pleasure this month to introduce you to the blog of a friend and subscriber known to me as 'the other Dave'.

The other Dave (also known as 'Dave from Downunder') has the most impressive-looking group of MySpace friends that I've ever seen. Click here to see what I mean.

OK, that's six of the best that I've seen this month. Keep forwarding me details on your own sites and recommending other URL's of interest. And if you have comments on the sites mentioned today, please have your say on the forum.

 Fight Tip of the Month

Interview with Alex Tui: part 5

Curiously, in this, the last part of our interview with Australia's first world kickboxing champion, Alex gets a little lost for words!

Alex struggles as I squeeze him for any secret techniques passed on to him by his trainer, Alan Hedger.

It turns out that the most important thing Hedger gave him was not any technique, but rather ... click here to find out.
