 The View from my Corner
What a month it has been:

I appeared on Andrew Denton's Enough Rope show, and I must admit that I've never had so many people coming up to me and saying, "I saw you on TV".

Unfortunately none of them have been corporate executives offering to sponsor our Youth Centre or campsite.

We have struggled this month to work out where we go next with beautiful Binacrombi. With the resignation of our beloved caretaker, Richie, the future of the campsite has been very much in doubt. It is still in doubt. We are spending much time in prayer, and ask for your support.

On July 16th, we fought like fury to make Christians vs. Lions XX the biggest and best show that we have yet staged (more info and pics on that below).

And we said goodbye to a dear friend and Christian brother, Danny Stratford. Despite suffering from cerebral palsy, Danny contributed a great deal to the life of our congregation. He died very suddenly and will be sorely missed.

Once again, it has been a month of great highs and great lows. I find myself yearning for a more settled life, but ... all in God's good time.

Your brother in the Good Fight,

 This Month's Special

Christians vs. Lions XX really was the biggest and best show that I think we've ever put on. It included six of our boys fighting, along with me taking on three different opponents over the space of the night.

You can catch some of the great moments now by clicking on the thumbnail pics above and below, to reveal the full-size action shot. But to really capture the action, you'll need to purchase a copy of the video or DVD.

The good news is that if you purchase a copy online now, I'm going to include a copy of Filter & Format (normally $27) - software that makes your emails more readable and less likely to get caught in spam filters.

You can find out about the bonus software by clicking here.

 For Your Prayers

Worldwide, it is hard to escape the feeling that the situation is deteriorating. I find myself increasingly drawing strength from outspoken visionaries like Uri Avnery and my friend Morde Vanunu. This month I want to introduce you to another man on the forefront of human rights work worldwide - Dr Chandra Muzaffer.

I first met Dr Muzaffer in person back in 1989 in Penang, Malaysia. I was aware of him then as a man who had campaigned for religious tolerance in Malaysia, and who published a human rights magazine, Aliran. In 1987 he was arrested under the Internal Security Act, and the church worldwide sprung to his defense, though Muzaffer himself is Islamic.

Now Dr Muzaffer is heading up an organisation called the International Movement for a Just World, and he has recently made some very powerful statements that helped me to see the terrible bombings in London in the context of the history of aggression from the West. Dr Muzaffer very kindly gave me permission to reprint the article here. I commend it to you.

Morde Remembers Hiroshima

Our brother Morde Vanunu lost another court case on July 25th. His appeal to the Supreme Court of Israel was to have his papers returned to him - diaries, letters and notes - that were confiscated from him during his 18 years in Ashkelon prison. It is a decision that is hard to understand, except on the grounds of pure vindictiveness.

Even so, Morde's mind has turned to remember the 60 year anniversary of the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima, and he has circulated this poem, written during his time in Ashkelon prison in 1995, on the 50th anniversary.

Hiroshima Hiroshima,
My beloved Hiroshima,
Your sons, daughters, elders, wives.
Blew, radiated, with an Atomic Bomb.
A radioactive cloud consumed, rubbed out. Hiroshima.

And as the situation in the Middle East worsens, and as the Israeli government resumes targeted assasinations, I want to encourage you to join me in campaigning for freedom for Adnan Na’im ‘Abdallah.

Adnan was a staff member at the YMCA Vocational Training Center in Aqaba refugee camp in Jericho. He was arrested one day on the grounds that he apparently gave someone military training - a charge that he completely denies. Adnan has asked for a trial. He has been told though that he cannot have a trial, as his informant's identity needs to be protected.

Adnan Abdallah

Adnan has now been in captivity for two and a half years, and there are no indications that he is ever likely to be released. Adnan is one of approximately 700 Palestinians held by Israel in administrative detention without charge or trial.

Adnan's friends say that he continues to believe in a peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians, and has not been shaken in his convictions by the events of the Intifada nor by his prolonged detention under very harsh conditions.

If you are willing, please write a letter to Adnan, and another to the Israeli authorities, asking for his release. You'll find details of his case, the addresses, and a sample letter here. You can also read about Adnan on the Amnesty International site, here.

 Sermon of the Month

I can't resist the temptation to return to one of my old favourites this month.

Last week the lectionary once again forced church-goers worldwide to focus upon this historic engagement between Jacob and his maker, so I figured it was time to encourage you to get back into the ring with the Almighty, and do another round with Him.

It always fascinates me that this sermon is by far my most popular. Every day between three and ten people from around the globe come to my site, looking for this very sermon! Why is it that so many people identify with this human-divine struggle? Perhaps you can tell me. Click here.

 Sites of the Month

I was looking for a common theme for the recommended sites this month. Self-improvement seemed right, but then I couldn't resist throwing in John Wega's site about the Christian Commission, which has nothing to do with the subject.

What these sites do have in common is that they are all great sites and, with one exception, they all belong to you, the community of Good Fight subscribers!

The Self-Improvement Directory

This is a site by my mate Garry Zancanaro, who is also a subscriber. Garry is sincerely attempting to make a difference in the lives of others through this site. All power to you mate!

A Winner by Any Standard

This is a site promoting a book by my mate Mr G. Not to be confused with his alphabetic predecessor, Mr T, Mr G is an author and motivational speaker who directs his inspirational message where I think it is most needed - at teenagers!

Mr G (otherwise known as 'Rob Garofalo') has done some amazing work in getting teenagers motivated to make a difference in their own communities, and the book is great. Highly recommended.

Deb Alicen is a friend and a subscriber, and she's here to help! Deb brings with her great experience as a counsellor and a depth of wisdom that is born of the struggles she has had to endure over the years. Check out her site.

The Christian Commission

If the title sounds a little old fashioned, maybe that's because the original US Christian Commission was officially disolved in 1866!

The Commission has been reformed by a group of re-enactors, to carry on the work by giving an accurate historical representation of those Christian workers that served on the battlefields of the Civil War. Amazing stuff!

International Movement for a Just World

Let me mention again here the site of the great human rights activist, Dr Chandra Muzaffer. The site regularly seems to go down for some reason. I suspect that there are many who would like to see Dr Muzaffer closed down completely, and maybe this has something to do with it. Either way, keep trying until you get through. I assure you that it will be worth the effort!

Make money online with Survey Scout

And finally, a site for those of you who are looking to pick up some extra cash online legitimately.

I've been with Survey Scout for a while now, and can recommend them as an entirely legitimate company. They generally send me about 2 or 3 surveys each week. You won't get rich this way, but if you like answering survey's anyway, it's an easy and honest way to pick up some extra pocket-money.

OK. That's it for this month. If you have your own site that you haven't told me about yet, do pass it on, and remember to check out my Links Page at where I post all my favourites. The above links will be added there shortly if they're not up there already.

Interview with a Pitbull

I still remember my first contact with Paul Grima. It was at a press conference for an upcoming fight show, and I'd gone to meet Stan the Man Longinitis. In the seat in front of me though was a surly looking guy covered in tatts, with the word 'Pitbull' shaved in to the back of his head! If you'd told me then that this guy would soon be one of my best mates, well ... I wouldn't have believed you!

Believe me, Paul is a great bloke - a family man, a loving father and husband, and a guy of enormous integrity. He is also one of the toughest, big-hearted fighters that this country has ever produced. Enjoy the interview!
