 The View from my Corner

 Hi guys,

It's been said plenty of time before, but God works in funny ways. It's true.

As you know, I've been struggling with the reality of having my friend and mentor, Ray Williams, in prison, for his supposed mismanagement of the once great insurance company, HIH.

Once of my chief concerns has been to see how Ray would handle the prison environment. I know he's a strong man who seems to be able to make the best of every situation. Even so, I was worried that one of the other inmates might consider it a point of pride to take a swing at a once tall poppy.

Well, I needn't have feared. God had sent an angel to watch over him.

About six months ago one of my boys in the fight club asked me to see if I could help a mate of his - a big Islander man, named Tevi. I was told that Tevi was an excellent bloke who been a bit of a tough guy in his time, but that he just needed a bit of a positive adult force in his life to help him come good.

Unfortunately Tevi got in trouble with the law again before we even had a chance to meet. Even so, I petitioned the judge, offering to take custody, and to supervise Tevi while he got his life back on track. It didn't do any good. Tevi got three years. But apparently he is still grateful to me, and apparently he loves my book, in which there is a chapter devoted to Ray.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, as Ray alighted from the truck at Cessnock Correctional Facility last week, he saw a huge Islander man shouting greetings to him from inside the fence. It was Tevi. And he quickly found, once he made it inside, that word had already got around the prison - nobody touches Ray. He's a friend of Father Dave's and (more importantly) a friend of Tevi's! God works in funny ways.

May the Lord grant you eyes to see where He is at work in your world this month.

Your brother in the Good Fight,

Dave

P.S. Continue to pray for Ray please. Pray not only for his protection, but also that the Lord might use Ray to bring life and hope to others. Apparently he has already found some young lads who want to study for a business degree while they are inside, and he's doing his best to help. He is a man with a lot to give.

 What's On

Thanks to all who participated in our wonderful Rock on for Life concert on May 1st.

It was an extraordinary event, and I am especially grateful to all the talented performers who came along and donated their time to help us raise funds for the Youth Centre.

enjoying 'Rock on for Life'

If you take a look at the picture gallery on www.fatherdave.org, you will find a picture of myself with the performers as well (in the church section), but I wanted to include this picture (above) of Imogen with Shayne and our old friend Bette, who we invited along on the day. It turned out afterwards that this had been Bette's first time out in three years. She had a wonderful time, as did we all!

Now ... for your diary ... our next fundraiser will be Christians vs. Lions XX. Thankfully it's not until July 16th, so we can all take a bit of a break :-)

One more for your diary.

My friend Pat is holding a Virtual Ball to raise funds for the Calgary Children's Cottage.

 For Your Prayers

Morde Vanunu in Norway?

In case you missed the news, our brother Morde Vanunu has been offered asylum as a refugee writer in the city of Kristiansand in Norway.

This is wonderful news, and I was touched to hear that there are in fact five cities on the East coast of Norway that offer refuge to persons who are unable to write freely in their own countries, due to persecution.

The tragedy of course is that the government of Israel has extended the restrictions that have been placed upon Morde since his release from prison a year ago. He is still not allowed to speak freely, let alone to leave Israel.

Even so, let me recommend that you read the transcript of a recent Internet meeting that took place between Morde and his new supporters and friends in Norway. You'll need to skip through the introduction, unless you understand Norwegian, but the transcript itself is in English. Click here.

And if you're wondering who that is in the picture, it's NOT Morde. It's the great Israeli peace activist, Uri Avnery.

If you haven't read it yet, Avnery's analysis of the current situation in Israel, and of the renewal of restrictions upon Morde in particular, is a must-read. Click here or the pic.

And if you're new to the Good Fight, and don't know the Vanunu story, this article is also an excellent introduction.

 Sermon of the Month

It was a popular slogan amongst Christians on Campus when I was in University. Well meaning Christians would graffiti 'Jesus is the Answer' on the back of toilet doors. Regularly though someone would scratch back underneath, 'What was the question'?

The pious response tended to be that Jesus is the answer to all our questions, but I just don't think that's true at all. In fact I feel that this sort of thinking is downright dangerous.

If that's got you curious, read the sermon I gave last Sunday, which takes as its text the speech St Paul gave to the Greek philosophers on Mars Hill. Click here.

And if you're a business person, you'll find that I strike a similar note in an article that I put together for online marketers - 'JV with the Devil'. Click here.

 Sites of the Month

Once again there are no shortage of great sites and articles to recommend to you this month.  Here's six of the best that I've found:

Sites that help you work:

  • Speed-Reader.com

Even if you missed the launch of this product, you really should consider what this software can do for you. It WILL double your reading speed in 16 minutes, and it WILL help you plough through that growing pile of books that you've been trying to ignore. Click here.

  • The Business Professional

This is a truly wonderful site for anyone who works for themselves.
It contains audio interviews, ebooks, software, and other resources designed to help you grow your business, no matter what business
    you're in.
And it will only cost you $1 to join for a week. Click here.

Sites that help you pray:

  • Rafah Today

This is one of the most touching and disturbing sites I have ever seen.
It's a personal site put together by a photo-journalist named Mohammed who lives in Rafah - a Palestinian town in the Gaza strip. These are his own pictures of his home town. They have to be seen to be believed.

  • Deiryassin Remembered

If you missed the 57th anniversary of the massacre at Deiryassin last month, pop over to www.deiryassin.org and pay your respects. Deiryassin is a story that must be told.
Sites that you've just gotta see:
  • Senior 2 Senior

OK. How did I get involved in a senior's site, I hear you asking. Well, Tom Koziol, secretary of the group, wrote to me and said "Dave, I'm sure there's some way we can work together". Well ... I'm praying for the work.

  • Affordasoft.com

My friend Donna Maher has set up a 'For friends of Father Dave' page.
Do pay it a visit, please. Even if you're not interested in Donna's affordable software, you might let her know how much you enjoyed Click here!

And remember, if you're looking for more great sites, check out my Links Page at www.fatherdave.org where I post all my favourites. The above links will be added there shortly if they're not up there already.

 Fight Tip of the Month

Interview with Mick Spinks, Part 6

In our second last instalment of our interview with Aussie Fighting Legend, Mick Spinks, we hone in on the all important issue of mental discipline.

Few athletes nowadays would underestimate the significance of mental preparation before competition, and nowhere is this more important than in the lead-up to a big fight.

Mick though was fighting with the best the world had to offer, at a time when not much had been developed in the way of sports psychology. Mick had to develop his own techniques for sharpening his mind and giving himself the winning edge in every situation. There details area all here.

 Father Dave's too-many-hits-to-the-head offer

Getting your emails blocked by SPAM filters was once something that only Online Marketers had to worry about, but I've been amazed how many of my personal emails, especially to friends who work in government departments, get bounced back to me because they contain words like 'friend' or 'cable'.

Filter and Format is a program that gets rid of words in your email that are SPAM filter triggers AND reformats your email to 65 characters per line or less.

I truly wish that everybody who emailed me used something like this to limit the length of the lines in their emails. Typing across the whole screen not only looks unprofessional. On some monitors it is unreadable.

I personally believe that email clients should have a tool like this built in to them, but they don't, so we have to rely on tools like this.

Now Filter and Format is resell software, which would normally mean that I could give away copies of it rather than sell it. In this case though the license prohibits me from giving it away, and from selling it for less than $27. Since I think that everybody can benefit from this software tool, I've therefore come up with an offer that should make the $27 seem a whole lot more affordable.

Purchase a copy of Filter and Format for $27 and receive any of the following bonuses for free:

  • A copy of my book, Sex, the Ring & the Eucharist (more info)
  • A copy of our last Fight Night on either video* or DVD (more info)
  • A Holy Trinity School of Martial Arts T-Shirt or singlet (more info)

Now, in the case of some of these items, they normally sell for more than $27. Never mind. I wanted to make it simple, and I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to get hold of this software. There's a few rules though:

  1. You must subscribe to the Good Fight (don't tell your friends)
  2. Limit of one bonus per subscriber
  3. If you live outside Australia, there will be an additional $10 postage fee
(unless you choose the eBook version of my book).
  4. There are only a handful of videos and DVD's left, so it's first come, first served. I won't be printing off more copies after these are gone.

OK. So how do you take up this offer? Click here to go to the sales page, or click here to purchase Filter and Format directly, and then email me to tell me which bonus article you would like. Make sure you include a postal address if it's something I need to send to you.

* Videos are in VHS format
